A Code of Conduct for Biosecurity
The Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science asked the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) to provide it with advice and input for a national Biosecurity Code of Conduct for scientists, as required by the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC), which was ratified in 1972.
The aim of the code of conduct is to prevent life sciences research or its application from directly or indirectly contributing to the development, production or stockpiling of biological weapons, as described in the BRWC, or to any other misuse of biological agents and toxins.
The Code, which will prove useful to most bio-laboratories, has now been published in English, and can be freely downloaded here.

First MycoAfrica newsletter of AMA
It gives me great pleasure to send out the first issue of MycoAfrica, the official newsletter of our society. Time to rejoice and bring the champagne. If champagne is not possible, why not take at least 15 minutes off, go get a good cup of coffee and be glad! Thanks to all of those who contributed to the newsletter, others for input and a special thanks to the two FABI elves who helped to proofread. I am looking forward to hear from AMA for the second issue. MycoAfrica is now together. However, any useful suggestions on how to improve the newsletter is most welcome. I already had one a few weeks ago, why not include pictures of a focus fungus for each newsletter? The newsletter will be posted on the AMA website within the next few days, both as pdf and as an html file. Our website is currently being edited and revised, and due to a technical hitch this is not yet 100% ready, our apologies. But you will hear from us soon to let you know that it is ready. The logo's mentioned in the newsletter will also be on there
