IMA's Award's

De Bary Medal

Based on outstanding career research. In 1996, first time this award was granted, two researchers were chosen: JOHN CORNER, for lifetime achievement in mycological research, particularly, contributions to ecology and the systematics of wood-decaying basidiomycetes. TERENCE INGOLD, for lifetime achievement in mycological research, particularly, contributions to our knowledge of fungal spore release and dispersal and the recognition of aquatic fungi as ecological specialists.

Ainsworth Medal

For recognition of extraordinary service to world mycology. In 1996, first time this award was granted, one researcher was chosen: JOHN WEBSTER, for extraordinary service to international mycology through the International Mycological Association, particularly his role as founding father and for long devoted service resulting in continuation of the activities of the group after his tenure, the greatest sign of success.

The three medals were made and cast in silver over bronze. They were hand engraved on the reverse with the name of the award, name of medalist, and date. The medals were made by Barbara Minor and Christopher A. Hentz of the Louisiana State University art department.
